EYE-CATCHING LANDSCAPE SHOTS LOOK LIKE STUNNING WORK OF ABSTRACT ART

This unique photography series makes everyday landscapes look like stunning works of abstract art. From the Grand Canyon National Park to Victoria, Australia, Zoe Wetherall's images make basic landmasses such as rock formations and groups of trees burst with colour and texture.

In order to capture the eye-catching series, "Earth," talented photographer Zoe frequently took to the skies above America, its national parks, and parts of Australia.
Shooting from hot air balloons, helicopters and even small planes, Zoe, 32, would eliminate the sky, horizon lines and normal points of reference - giving each image a flat and, at first, perplexing look.

The series, which is ongoing, began around five years ago, when Zoe - who lives in New York City - took a hot air balloon flight high above parts of Albuquerque.
Having used a long lens to compress her aerial images, the Australian photographer decided to continue her project whenever she is on her travels.

That has meant visits to Hawaii, Niagara Falls, and Yellowstone, Zoe said, and even for shots that are not taken from the skies, the photographer still uses the same technique and style of shot.
Through the series Zoe aims to show Earth's natural beauty, but also the impact humanity can have on given landscape.
Zoe said: "I am always on the lookout for interesting landscapes everywhere I go. I love to travel, and seeing new places is a significant source of inspiration for my work."
"These images of the Earth grew from my desire to show the beauty of it's natural form, and I also wanted to reveal the scale of humanity's impact on the landscape.
"After a few years, the series started to emerge just from visiting new places and shooting in the same style everywhere I went.
"I have been lucky to have travelled all over the United States and visited many National Parks, which make it easy to find amazing locations to photograph."
"Also, Melbourne is a great place to do hot air balloon flights so when I was living there is was a great opportunity to photograph the landscape near Melbourne from the air, without having to travel anywhere.
"The response has been really great."
